Today Temple Emanuel welcomed a local prayer group called Sister in Faith today.
The group was invited to Temple campus to learn about Judaism, Jewish observance, and Chanukah. This group centers on the similarities and connections between all faiths, building bridges and friendships. Here is the letter from our very own Bev Kagen, who lead this wildly successful experience.
Today, members of my Sisters of Faith group (Jews, Christians and Muslims) visited Temple Emanuel. Most of them had never been to a Jewish house of worship. Our visit included a history of Temple Emanuel, informative description of the sanctuary, unique religious symbols and showing Hebrew writing in the Torah scroll explained by Rabbi Schadick and Cantor Fair. Following, we had a mini Hanukkah party including blessings for Shabbat, lighting the menorah, dreidels, gelt (chocolate coins), Hanukkah cookies, potato latkes, challah and prayers beautifully sung by Cantor Fair. And, everyone took home a little Hanukkah gift bag.
It was truly a wonderful experience welcoming my Sisters of Faith group to Temple Emanuel!
